Abstract Detail

The Convention on Biological Diversity: What is it and why should botanists care?

Hirsch, Leonard P. [1].

Life in the negotiating trenches: Permits, certificates of origin/provenance/source and other things that go bump in the night.

Len Hirsch has been part of the negotiating of the CBD since its inception. He will address the developments in the regime for "access and benefit sharing" that undergird and impact all biological collecting. He will share information (such as on the new rules in Brazil) and concerns about possible future changes to research and collecting permits, international shipments of specimens, and research restrictions.
